Flowers are a Great Gift Idea
Flowers are a popular gift and in high demand, and the
florists are always busy distributing them, and each spring,
greenhouses and nurseries contain legions of new buds
waiting to be transplanted into yards and gardens.
Springtime leads to the study of what to cultivate in your
open spaces. The easiest way to collect a great bouquet is
the pursuit of wildflowers, which grow freely without any
help from meddling humans, but in many places, these natural
blossoms are hard to find, and so home owners get down on
bended knee to contribute their own efforts to the growing
season.
If you are trying to grow your own flowers, a lot of choices
are made depending on the growing seasons, and when the
flowers will be most likely to bloom. There are two main
types of flowers: annuals and perennials. Annuals last only
one growing season and have to be re-planted every year.
Perennials, on the other hand, will grow for years and
years, re-emerging with each successive spring. Annuals are
sometimes selected because they can be faster bloomers.
Some annuals seem to be bred for robust blossoms and can be
chosen based on an early or late blooming time to coincide
with your specific growing season. Then there are
biennials, which only last for two seasons. In addition,
they don't produce any blooms the first year.
There are a wide variety of annuals for your 'one-shot'
landscaping. Some are stronger than others, and a gardener
should choose these on the basis of what conditions are
available for growing. Fragile or 'tender' plants need more
care and better conditions; the hardier ones will be able to
meet environmental challenges and work better on their own.
The stronger plants are probably better for commercial
landscaping and in situations where they will be largely
ornamental and without constant care.
Perennials also come in all shapes and sizes, and with
different growing requirements. The rose, a popular
perennial, grows on thorny bushes that are best suited to a
large space. The rose is perhaps our favorite collective
flower, mentioned in classic literature and given freely as
a gesture of friendship or romantic love. The long-rowing
perennial plants will provide your home with color for years
to come.
The gardener will want to look at growing conditions, as
also at color schemes, to create a vivid and eye-catching
garden. Consider whether the plants will be needed only for
a season, or whether they should last into future years,
growing along with their tenders. In any case, a lively
crop of blooming beauties will enable the gardener to do as
the florists suggest: Say it with Flowers.
